link | info | book . pdf“The Fish Scale” (A Escama) gives its title to two texts — a short epic poem and an essay — both written after a dream in which a scale was discovered on the artist’s forehead.
In describing and creatively exploring the dream’s interpretation, the artist weaves together readings of The Thousand and One Nights and The Indiscreet Jewels (by Denis Diderot), in a free association that connects images, periods, and geographies. She proposes alternative meanings for the appearance of the scale by drawing parallels between the "technique" of dream formation and artistic creation, and between dream interpretation and art criticism.
The texts, read during performances, were never published or distributed, in order to emphasize orality and to ensure the audience remained fully focused on listening and the experience of the present moment.
